Founded in 2006, Saung Budaya Dance is a premier traditional dance company based in New York City. In a city recognized as the world's cultural capital and a global melting pot, we serve as a vital link between the Indonesian archipelago and a diverse international audience. For the last 20 years, our work has been and continues to be dedicated to introducing and preserving the rich array of Indonesian performing arts through both traditional and contemporary choreography.

Despite Indonesia's status as the largest country in Southeast Asia, its cultural presence in the United States, particularly in New York City, is often overshadowed by that of neighboring East and South Asian nations. While traditions from countries like Japan, Korea, and China enjoy significant mainstream prestige, Indonesian heritage remains underrepresented and frequently misunderstood. This visibility gap creates a barrier to cultural exchange and prevents the full appreciation of Indonesia's diverse ethnic groups and traditions.
